Biography of David Coblitz
Mr. Coblitz specializes in St. Louis Scenes as well as stress relieving art based upon research into hospital design. This is art designed to promote healing. His work of this nature is installed in Anderson Hospital in Maryville, IL, Barnes West Hospital in Creve Coeur, MO, Missouri Baptist Hospital, in St. Louis, MO, a number of hospitals in Austraila, as well as physician offices. It has been exhibited at the St. Louis Surgical Center. He has given invited lectures on this topic as part of St. Louis Design week in 2012 and 2015 as well as at Arcturis architectural design firm and at the St. Louis Regional Arts Commission. His 2017 invited lecture at the International Photography Hall of Fame was titled, “Your art should reflect your heart, not your windows”. He uses his combination of technical and artistic expertise to provide larger custom site specific pieces and installations including for way-finding in a large variety of materials & formats.
His art work is available through a growing number of interior design and architectural firms, art consultants, facility planners, galleries, and framers listed under “recommended outlets for my work” on his home page. It has also been represented and shown in several brick & mortar galleries in the St. Louis metro area as well as online in the French ArtMajeur site and the British Saatchi online gallery.
Mr. Coblitz formed Coblitz Creative Concepts, LLC in 2006 after retiring from a long career developing new products in the aircrew training & simulation field for McDonnell Douglas and the Boeing Company among others. He headed the visual display core competency group of 33 visual systems designers when he left Boeing in 2005. He leverages his academic training & practical experience in optical engineering with his keen eye for design to provide photographic fine art.
He has been active in the St. Louis photographic community winning a number of awards. He has served various arts organizations in several capacities. He is past 1st Vice President and Photography Section Chairman for the St. Louis Artists’ Guild (the oldest continuing Arts organization west of the Mississippi River). He was newsletter editor for the St. Louis Camera Club. He is also a member of the Greater St. Louis Art Association.
He won 1st place in the “Seen 2007” photography contest in the Advertising Division, 2nd place & honorable mention in the St. Louis Jewish Light newspaper’s “Visions of Judaism” contest. He also had 2 of his photographs selected by the University of St. Louis for exhibit in their Gallery 210 as among the best photographs of St. Louis in the previous 50 years. His “Sprite” won a prize in the St. Louis Artists’ Guild’s “Portraits around the world” exhibition juried by a Washington University art professor.
His photos have been exhibited in Lyons, France as well as in numerous exhibits in the St. Louis area.
